City karateka at world tournament
Karate Director, Bongani Gumede jets off to Japan.
CHAIRPERSON of the uThungulu Karate Federation and uMhlathuze Municipality Karate Director, Bongani Gumede, jetted off to Japan on Tuesday to participate in the World Open karate tournament.
Gumede will participate in the karate spectacular as one of the tournament judges, and is also an assistant coach for Team SA.
Twenty-five athletes will make up the SA contingent, 15 (four officials and 11 participants) of whom hail from KwaZulu-Natal.
uMkhanyakude Municipality will be represented by one participant at this year’s showpiece.
The tournament starts tomorrow (Friday) and on Tuesday and Wednesday promotion and grading of the participants will take place.
Gumede told Eyethu Bay Watch he will also be receiving his 5th Dan black belt.
