UPDATE: Richards Bay SPCA says thank you

Generous donations keep SPCA afloat after break-in.

THE Chairperson of the Richards Bay SPCA, says the community generously backed the animal welfare organisation, after the devastating clean-out by an armed gang last Saturday.

A syndicate of seven plus, broke into the premises in the early hours of the morning, hours before the month-end Open Day and fled with the market day float and the manager’s computer.

‘We all felt discouraged and rattled after the loss of our data, accounting system and cash,’ says Anna-Mare Coetzee.

‘The SPCA is always scraping the barrel and just when we thought we had our noses slightly above water, this happened.

‘But, coincidentally, the bikers donated a truckload of dog food on that Saturday, which certainly lifted the morale.

‘We have since received donations, practical support and messages of encouragement from everywhere.

‘Every contribution is so highly appreciated – it gives us the motivation to carry on with the work at hand.

‘We want to thank each individual and organisation from the bottom of our hearts.’

Two wooden doors, a security gate and two safes were badly damaged or destroyed during the break-in, but have since been repaired.

‘We are still in need of two additional security doors to beef up safety.

‘Also, December is around the corner and we pick up many stray animals, so food donations are always much needed.

‘Lastly, we want to thank the community for their support of our month-end Open Day, which is our main fund-raiser.

‘Those who donate and those who buy, keep us afloat.

‘Thank you Richards Bay from the bottom of our hearts and keep the SPCA on your Christmas list.’
