Swinging in the rain

Jerry Zungu and Sifiso Sibiya claimed the win at the Xerox Charity Golf Day at the Empangeni Country Club with 47 points

A TOTAL of 30 golfers braved the rain when they grabbed their wetsuits, snorkels and flippers on Saturday and took up the challenge of competing in the Xerox Charity Golf Day at Empangeni Country Club.

This day separated the men from the boys, as playing conditions certainly did not favour the players.

Having to deal with rain drops in the face, a wet grip on the club and one’s ball ‘sticking’ where it lands, certainly made the round challenging.

But it was rain men Jerry Zungu and Sifiso Sibiya who claimed the win with 47 points.

Sifiso Sibiya certainly played out of his socks, as he hit a hole-in-one on the 9th which he celebrated with a traditional rain dance.

Competitors followed a 4 Ball Better Ball Stableford format, which certainly benefited the players due to the playing conditions.

All funds raised were given to the Empangeni and Richards Bay SPCA’s.

A portion of the funds raised at the auction was also donated to these charities.

Xerox handed over cheques of R5 000 each to the organisations.
