Aircraft makes emergency landing on Richards Bay beach

Both occupants of the two-seater Cessna did not sustain serious injuries.

NSRI Station 19 land and sea crews responded shortly before noon today after reports that a light aircraft had ditched on the beach close to the southern breakwater at the Port of Richards Bay.

Sea Rescue rigid inflatable ‘Spirit of Round Table’ launched at the base and headed to assist through the harbour mouth while a 4X4 team accessed the crash site via the coal terminal.

Confirmation has been received that both occupants of the two-seater Jaberu did not sustain serious injuries and that the aircraft suffered damage to its undercarriage but remained basically intact.

A full report on the incident is expected soon.
The names of the occupants and details of the plane’s flight path have not yet been made known.
