TWO security officers were held at gun point in the early hours of Wednesday morning when six men gained entry into the uThungulu Regional Landfill Site in Empangeni.
Shortly after 1am while doing his rounds, one of the patrol officers was approached by two armed young intruders.
‘They said horrible things to me and threw me to the ground,’ said the officer, who was still in shock hours after the ordeal.
After tying him up, the pair were joined by another four men before making their way back to the main office where they found the second guard, who was stabbed in the leg while trying to defend himself.
The officers were taken to the men’s ablution blocks where the gang demanded the keys for the security room which housed the safe.
After failing to open it, the men stole two computers and made their way to the locker and storage rooms where they took only a cell phone.
‘They must have been under the impression that the money in the safe was collected every Wednesday,’ said Site Manager Yona Mhlanga.
‘This could have been their motive for the break-in.’
The guards managed to free themselves and scurried to the security officer at the new Empangeni Cemetery, where they contacted their supervisor.
Officers from Makheda Security recovered two stolen computers while trying to locate the intruders’ point of entry.
