UPDATE: Golf club murder accused out on bail

THE 41-year-old father from Melmoth who has been charged with the murder of his three-year-old daughter after hitting her in the head with a golf club, is out on bail.

S’boniso Skhumbuzo Buthelezi, a municipal worker, was released on bail of R2 000 at the Melmoth Magistrate’s Court.

Buthelezi was apparently arguing with his wife on Sunday, 25 October at their home in the Thubalethu township when he dealt his daughter the fatal blow.

According to an affidavit his wife filed with police, he had swung at her with the golf club, accidentally hitting their daughter, who later in St Mary’s Hospital in Melmoth.

Buthelezi will appear in court again on 2 December.
