THE case of two Mtunzini brothers accused of murder and assault took a surprising turn at eSikhawini Regional Magistrate’s Court this week.
Mthobisi Excellent (30) and Mzothule Bharwu Mdluli (27) were arrested in February last year, for allegedly assaulting and killing an older man at eZinkambeni Tavern.
They were charged with murder and assault with intent to cause bodily harm.
It is believed the duo had an altercation with the victim before they beat him to death.
The siblings were apparently consuming alcohol and playing pool with a group of friends when the incident occurred.
During court proceedings, it was revealed that a fight broke out outside the tavern structure, after the deceased’s nephew accused the brothers of being disrespectful.
Various versions of events, and counter-claims were made and the case was postponed until 12 January for further investigation.
Brothers will remain in custody until the case resumes.
