WHILE locals woke to some welcome rain this morning, the day was double jinxed for many Richards Bay residents.
Commuters between Richards Bay and Empangeni suffered another setback with a three-kilometre long traffic jam following an accident at the Esikhaleni robots on the John Ross Parkway.
A mini tour bus and an articulated truck were involved – apparently as a result of skidding on the wet surface where the intersection has been without traffic robot control for the past few days.
Traffic police and emergency services are on scene and there is a large amount of diesel spillage – so expect long delays as vehicles are re-routed around the intersection.
Power outages
Most of the town, including the CBD, was without power from just before 7am and the situation remains as electricians try to determine why two transformers are down at the Hercules sub station.
At this stage it is not sure whether the fault is on the incoming Eskom side and there is no indication when power will be restored.
