UPDATE: Picketing picks up at Foskor

Temporary traffic disruption at company entrance off the John Ross Parkway this morning.

IT was not a smooth ride in to work at Richards Bay phosphates giant Foskor at 7am this morning as protesters reportedly blocked some of the company employees from entering.

But the Public Policing Unit and Richards Bay SAPS quickly got a handle on the situation.

‘We received complaints about protesters stopping vehicles at the entrance, but things quickly simmered down,’ said Richards Bay SAPS spokesperson Captain Debbie Ferreira.

This was the first misdeed since the march commenced at 6am yesterday.

Members of union CEPPWAWU (Chemical Energy Paper Printing Wood & Allied Workers Union) on Wednesday received permission to demonstrate their demands for existing pay slips to be altered to a basic salary format as well as the implementation of salary scales, a pay progression criteria and bonuses.

Take note: There are no disruptions on the John Ross Parkway.
