CPF members bust alleged drug traffickers

The suspects were remanded in custody until 2 November when they will apply for bail.

TWO alleged drug traffickers were apprehended in a citizens arrest by members of the uPhongolo Community Policing Forum (CPF) Youth Desk, working with SAPS intelligence services.

The suspects were caught with two bags of dagga weighing 50kgs on Monday at 4am as they tried to enter the N2 to Durban.

The CPF members were allegedly offered a R10 000 bribe to let the suspects continue on their way.

‘We rejected the bribe and told the suspects we were seriously working against crime and we invited the members of the SANDF to give us back-up until the police arrived and arrested the two,’ said Nkosinathi Mkhwanazi, Chairperson of uPhongolo CPF Youth Desk.

The suspects were arrested with two bags of dagga weighing 50kg.

They appeared in Pongola Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday and the case was postponed to 2 November for bail application.
