White rhino shot but horn left intact

THE carcass of a white rhino was found in Nqumeni, in the Hluhluwe section of Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park (HiP) at the weekend.

It is thought the rhino, which had sustained fatal bullet wounds but its horns were still intact, was killed on Friday night.

No weapons were recovered at the scene and no arrests have yet been made.

‘This brings the total poached rhino in KZN to 92,’ said Musa Mntambo, Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife Spokesperson.
