Suspected poacher shot in Zululand Rhino Reserve
The alleged poacher is in hospital under police guard.
A SUSPECTED poacher arrested on Zululand Rhino Reserve (ZRR) on Saturday.
After a brief armed conflict, the suspect was shot and is currently in hospital under police guard.
The incident occurred at about 6pm during routine anti-poaching patrols by members of organised crime and Nyathi Anti-Poaching Unit.
The 45-year-old man was on ZRR property and was suspected to have been attempting to poach the rhinos.
At the time of his arrest, he was found to be in possession of an unlicensed hunting rifle and a 9mm pistol.
He was charged with an array of offences, including trespassing and illegal poaching of rhinos, and is expected to appear at Ubombo Magistrate’s Court over the next few days.
