VIDEO: Mtunzini zebras ‘doing well’ in new home
Jabula, Zenda and then Savannah are reportedly 'eating and drinking up a storm' in the Amatikulu Nature Reserve.
Bring back the Zini Zebras has released a statement on its Facebook page, an update regarding the removal of the zebras from Mtunzini yesterday.
‘The Zebras are in a safe place, and who knows….. maybe one day they will return.
The Game Capture Unit, Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife Officers and vets acted professionally when capturing Savannah, Jabula and Zenda. The Zebras were darted, calmed and loaded into the transport truck without any injury to the animals or the surrounding public.
The truck then made its way to the Amatikulu Nature Reserve, followed closely by concerned citizens. The truck pulled up at the turn to the 4×4 track inside the secure reserve and the back of the truck was opened.
Jabula, Zenda and then Savannah leapt out the back of the truck, had a look around and wandered off into the darkness as a family.
We have this afternoon (Thursday) spoken to Trueman Buthelezi of Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife. He has assured us that the zebras are doing well.
There are always guards on duty and they have been tasked with keeping a close eye on our trio. It is reported that they have been eating and drinking up a storm, with so much vegetation to choose from, and they have also mingled into an already established herd.’
