UPDATE: Nongoma quads doing fine

The three girls and one boy are in good condition and have returned to Nongoma.

THE Nongoma quadruplets, whose mother did not know she was carrying four babies until they were delivered, turned a month old last week and are stable.

They have been transferred back to the Benedictine Hospital in Nongoma where they were born after spending several weeks at the Lower Umfolozi War Memorial Regional Hospital (LUWMRH) in Empangeni.

Two girls and one boy – Owami, Owethu and Olwethu now weigh 1.3kg, while Oliswa (girl) leads the pack at 1.4kg.

Mother Nobuhle Qwabe, who did not attend any antenatal classes during her pregnancy, said she was shocked to discover that she was in labour with more than one child.

‘I honestly did not know I was carrying four babies.

‘When the doctors arrived and the babies kept coming, I did not know what to say. I was shocked, but I am excited now,’ Qwabe said.
