No more nudes, no more dudes?

EARLIER this month men (and women) all over the world woke up to some rather startling news; Playboy will be doing away with full nudity.

Under the guidance of senior vice president of digital marketing, Robin Zucker, Playboy relaunched its website with a “safe for work” strategy in 2014. Meaning Playboy.com now featured no nudity.

Contrary to popular belief, Playboy said it saw a 258% jump in unique visitors after the relaunch. Its web traffic increased from 4 million to 16 million unique users per month.

Following this lead, a ‘nude-free’ hard-copy edition might boost circulation, which has dropped to 800 000, from 5.6 million in 1975.

Whether or not this will succeed is yet to be seen. However, not everyone is entirely chuffed about the loss.
