THE murderer of Zibuse Abednigi Mhlongo, who was shot and killed at the Caltex garage in Bhoboza near Mtubatuba in 2013, was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment.
On the day in question, accused Ntokayifani Vincent Chonco had been driving a Mercedes Benz while the deceased was driving a truck.
After what appears to have been a road rage incident, both pulled in to the garage where Chonco was seen getting out of his vehicle with a firearm in his hands.
According to witnesses, he approached Mhlongo, who exited his truck, and after a short but heated exchange, Chonco shot Mhlongo in the stomach.
Chonco then returned to his vehicle and fled the scene, but was tracked down and arrested on the same day.
With the help of eyewitnesses, Constable Simo Simelane was able to piece together a strong case against Chonco.
He was found guilty at the Empangeni Regional Court last week.
