Young gospel group on a mission
Local school boys are making a difference with their inspiring gospel tunes.
FOUR local schoolboys are on a mission to influence the youth through their love for gospel music.
Forming the ‘Indumiso Males’ gospel group, Sfiso Gumede, Samkelo Ngema, Thobani Zungu and Lindanni Gumede from Zenzeleni Mashamase High School have travelled a long and challenging road to get to where they are today.
Initially an eight-man ensemble ranging from Grade 8 to matric pupils, four group members left, but the remaining four held their heads up high and decided to continue to do what they do best.
Demo
Making themselves known to the community was top priority and after doing a number of local gigs, the group decided to record a demo CD.
Funds were limited, however the will to keep going was stronger than the challenges they faced and the boys eventually worked their way through with a number of donations and small performances.
Soon they found themselves at the ZoMoney Studios in 2013 to record their first demo.
‘We kept on singing and worshiping and appreciative community members supported our success,’ said Zungu.
In May last year they entered a gospel competition in Mandeni and walked away with the title and grand prize of R8 000.
This served as a boost of confidence for the boys who used the prize money to record their debut album ‘Icebo Likankulunkulu’.
The future
‘We truly believe that our dream of being a well-equipped group can motivate the youth to stray from crime, drugs and violence,’ said Zungu.
‘We have many plans for the future and hope to one day find a sponsor who will assist in turning these plans into action.’
