COMMUNITY members joined hands with the police to apprehend two suspects of attempted burglary on Saturday.
The suspects were seen jumping over the fence of a property on Cactus Drive in Empangeni and attempted to flee after realising they were being watched.
Empangeni Neighbourhood Watch and Patrol was alerted and cornered the suspects in Neil Armstrong Road until the Empangeni Flying Squad arrived to make the arrest.
On Friday, the same suspects were allegedly involved in a remote jamming incident at the Mosque in North Road.
‘My friend and I drove into the parking lot at noon on Friday. After I parked, I noticed my car would not lock and my friend experienced the same problem,’ said a motorist who wished to remain anonoymous.
‘More cars arrived and they had the same problem. We noticed a white Ford Fiesta in the parking lot and when we approached the vehicle it sped off before we could stop them.’
The same car was also seen frequenting 5 Ways Mall and Nyala Road on Friday, as well as in and around Grantham Park last week.
It is believed the suspects are linked to a number of attempted break-ins in Grantham Park, as well as a house break-in in Wildebees Street two months ago.
In a separate incident, Empangeni Neighbourhood Watch and Patrol arrested two suspects for possession of stolen goods last week. They were subsequently released on bail.
On October 8, the suspects were also caught on footage stealing a laptop from a vehicle on Richard Gordon Drive, Empangeni.
