Two rabies cases confirmed
Two dogs have had to be euthanised after testing positive for rabies.

DEPARTMENT of Agriculture Animal Health Technician Michael Mdlethse has confirmed on Friday that two dogs have been positively diagnosed with rabies.
Both pets, one from eShowe and another from a rural area near Mtunzini, have been put down.
‘We must ask people to participate in our vaccination campaigns,’ said Mdletshe.
‘When we announce these campaigns, people do not respond. It is important for them to bring their pets to prevent rabies from spreading.’
Empangeni SPCA Inspector Roland Fivaz also issued a stern warning.
‘Summer is approaching and during this time we will have problems,’ he said.
‘Even if one’s pets are kept in an enclosed yard, rather not take a chance. Just get the vaccinations done.’
The two cases of rabies, one in late September and the other last week, are the first confirmed cases in Zululand since July 2014.
If you suspect an animal is infected with rabies, contact Mdletshe on 071 6875535 immediately.
