WATCH: Zane Ison lifts 350kgs at World Powerlifting Champs
Zane Ison set three new world records at the SPF-GPC World Powerlifting Championships.
RICHARDS Bay’s Zane Ison again threw the weights around like toys at the SPF-GPC 2015 World Powerlifting Championships in Las Vegas, adding three new world records to his existing four.
Ison, who currently holds four world records in the super heavyweight (140kg plus) class in the 47-49 year age group, competed in a lower class this year.
‘Big Z’ weighed in at 135kg and therefore competed in the heavyweight (under 140kg) section.
He managed the following lifts: squat – opening lift of 310kg and then 350kg (two world records – previous world record 275kg); bench press – world record 193kg lifted 170kg due to a shoulder injury and deadlift – lifted 310kg (previous world record 280kg).
More than 500 lifters from 34 countries competed and team South Africa finished third overall.
This was a great achievement for the team, which consisted of only 21 lifters compared to other teams with a minimum of 40 lifters.
Zane’s super heavyweight world records are as follows: squat – 345kg, bench press – 198.5kg and deadlift – 300kg.
Zane will be training hard for the upcoming Iron Gladiators competition to be held in Durban on 21 November.
He then has his sights set on the SPF-GPC 2016 World Powerlifting Championships which will take place in Serbia.
‘I would really like to thank my coach Donovan Morris, my wife Juanese and Sign Force’s Craig Webster for getting behind me and helping me achieve.’ said Ison.
