Young golf talent on the rise
Logan Loughran-Mostert is the Supersport Lets Play star for September.
GRANTLEIGH School’s Logan Loughran-Mostert (7) is Zululand’s next golfing prodigy – and the Supersport Let’s Play winner for September.
The talented Grade 2 pupil who recently moved up from Plettenberg Bay has achieved a lot in his short golfing career.
Mostert who is registered with SA Kids Golf, is the current Junior Goose Valley Country Club champion and is looking to sign up with the Richards Bay Country Club.
The 7-year-old plays off a 29 handicap and has added the following achievements to his impressive resume: Junior Goose Valley Country Club champion (2014); won the Mount Edgecomb Junior Open (2014); placed third in the Junior African international tournament at Warmbaths (2014); was invited to compete in the Malaysia Junior Championships, European Junior Championships (Scotland) and the World Junior Championships (USA) last year, but declined owing to financial constraints; won two Junior Open tournaments at Mount Edgecomb (2015).
Logan attends golfing lessons once a week and plays occasionally with his dad or competes when tournaments are on.
Richard Lee coached Logan in the Cape, but he has recently signed up with local coach Anton Geringer with the hopes of bettering his talent.
Logan’s parents noticed his talent and love for golf at age two and bought him a plastic golf set.
He received his first bag of kids clubs at age four.
‘My best performance and memory was when I shot 37 over 9 holes to win a competition at Simola Country Club, which included one eagle and a birdie,’ said Mostert.
He also participates in other school sports such as soccer, cricket, rugby and hockey.
But when not smashing balls on the driving range, he loves to fish and ride motorbikes.
Hi motto is ‘Be kind and good to other people’.
This kid is definitely someone to look out for in the future.
Who knows, he could well be the next Louis Oosthuizen.
