Tenders raise serious concerns

The violations were picked up by alert officials and the appropriate actions taken.

NO further work will be given to a company whose owner failed to declare in a tender document that she was married to a State employee, namely a City Councillor.

The matter, which came before the City of uMhlathuze Executive Committee meeting last week, related to calls for tenders for the erection of a new occupational clinic structure.

The violation was picked up by alert officials and the appropriate actions taken were applauded by Exco as showing that ‘the bid adjudication process works’.

An item dealing with the issuing of a tender for the refurbishment of Ntuze Hall also posed problems for Exco councillors.

The tender includes construction of a guard house, fencing and a disabled lift.

Exco voiced concern that such work, especially in traditional areas, should not be undertaken before an MOU is signed guaranteeing the community authority’s protection of such assets, which are often subject to vandalism.

A similar situation exists at the Umsasandla Thusong Centre at KwaDlangezwa, which has lapsed into disuse owing to vandalism and subsequent non-occupation.

While upgrading will attract various government departments to locate at this community support centre, security would first need to be improved.
