Dube supports uMkhanyakude investigations

MEC pleads innocent in tender allocations

THE KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Nomusa Dube, has welcomed the news that a number of government institutions, including Provincial Treasury, are conducting investigations into various allegations of fraud, corruption or maladministration in the uMkhanyakude District Municipality.

She believes that this is a necessary step which will go a long way in promoting good, clean governance, including exposing any acts of improper conduct irrespective of who is involved.

She also said she was angered by the relentless efforts to drag her name into the affairs of her business partner, to create an impression in the public mind that there were mischievous dealings on her part in the awarding of contracts.

The MEC says allegations of corruption or irregularities are viewed in a serious light and must be investigated without fear or favour and regardless of who is involved, If wrongdoing is proven, appropriate actions and sanctions should be taken.

She says the media’s selection of Mr Ncube’s companies to include only those involved in uMkhanyakude, has been done to create an impression that the companies have been given tenders with her blessing and that she had turned a blind eye to the alleged irregularities because of their relationship.
