Stirring the potjie

'The Mariners' take top honours at Grantleigh School potjie competition

THERE was plenty of stirring going on when a number of Grantleigh School families gathered in front of the school to take part in a highly contested potjie competition.

With the first prize being a weekend away for 12 to Ponta du Ouro, no less than fifteen ‘Potjie Masters’ were urged to dust off ancient family recipes, tighten their apron strings and chop, slice and stir their way to victory.

While the magic concoctions bubbled away, the youngsters attended their first disco in the school hall.

At the judging later that evening an array of pots were presented – from seafood pots and spicy chicken to oxtail.

The eventual winners were ‘The Mariner’s’ who presented a creamy mussel pot.

Results were as follows :

1st – The Mariners (J Volker and Team)

2nd – Soul Food (M Taylor and Team)

3rd – McPotjie (Mr Stiles and Team)

4th – Mumbai Indians (R Naidoo and Team)
