uThungulu squad of 15 that will represent the sub union in this years Premier League has been announced.

A PROVISIONAL uThungulu cricket squad of 15 to represent the sub-union in this year’s Premier League has been announced. As expected the team will be captained by Eugene Zwart, with Otto Rode the player-coach.
It has be established that Grové Venter, uThungulu’s current top order batsman and wicketkeeper has thrown in his lot with Durban Club Delta.
This is very disappointing. The sub-union had gone to a lot of trouble organising special training for Grové in Durban with the KZN Academy.
It is pretty obvious that somebody there realised his considerable talent both as a wicketkeeper and top order batsman, and made arrangements for him to move to Delta.
The sub-union have objected strongly to his move and have appealed to the KZN Cricket Union to rectify the situation.
Venter’s absence will not doubt open up a huge gap which will be hard to fill in the uThungulu team.
The provisional squad: Eugene Zwart (captain), Stephan Joubert, Thula Ngema, Otto Rode, Karl Marais, Berto Basson, Trevor Kietzmann, Ruan van Rensburg, Kyle Abbott, Darryn du Pavillon, Neil Jordan, Mark Smith and Jason Reddinger.
New names will be added to this squad as the season progresses.
• Golfers are reminded of the uThungulu cricket sponsored day on Saturday 28 September at the Empangeni Country Club. Bookings, whether it be for the 4 Ball Better Ball competition or for the sponsorship of a hole, can be made through Fuzzy van Aswegen on 083 7571333.
This is an important fund-raising day for the uThungulu cricket side who are hoping to do well and maintain their Premier League status.
