Local walkers strike gold
Atheletes walked tall at the KZN Walk Championships in Durban, with four scooping gold medals
THE uMhlathuze Athletics Club recently walked tall – and very fast – at the KZN Walk Championships in Durban where four Zululanders scooped gold in their various categories.
Yvonne Irmscher, Lindokhule Ntombela, Andile Ximba and Sizwe Masuku all outpaced the opposition.
Masuku won the 10km male walk in a time of 56.55, with Ximba claiming first place in the 20km male event in 02.11.41.
Irmscher crossed the line in ahead of the pack in the ladies’ 30km walk in 03.07.47, with young and talented Lindokuhle Ntombela snatching gold in the male 30km walk in a speedy time of 02.40.43.
Irmscher and Ntombela were selected to represent KwaZulu-Natal at the South African Race Walking Championships on 12 October, where they will compete in a 50km race.
