Kevin Anderson receives US Open Sportsmanship Award
SA tennis player Kevin Anderson walks away with sportsmanship award at the US Open.
HOME-GROWN professional tennis player Kevin Anderson has received the 5th annual US Open Sportsmanship Award for personifying excellence in sportsmanship throughout the Emirates Airline US Open Series and the US Open in North America.
Presented to him by USTA Sportsmanship Selection Committee Chairman Todd Martin, the South African sportsman was described as one who best embodies respect and sportsmanship.
‘Of all the players on tour, Kevin consistently ranks among the best, even in the heat of competition,’ said USTA Chairman, CEO and President Katrina Adams.
‘He is a tremendous role model and is deserving of this year’s award.’ Adams said.
The USTA started a Sportsmanship Committee in 2011 aimed to educate and inspire youngsters and their parents to develop and exhibit a high degree of sportsmanship, and an attitude of fair play and mutual respect on and off the tennis court.
* Kevin Anderson was knocked out by Stan Wawrinka yesterday in a 6-4, 6-4, 6-0 match at the US Open.
Three of the most memorable weeks for me unfortunately came to an end yesterday. Thank you for all your support throughout, it means a lot!
