DESPITE allegations of previously having broken the law, the newly elected ANC Youth League (ANCYL) National Secretary General, Njabulo Nzuza, says he has nothing to hide.
Nzuza was responding to numerous accusations which surfaced earlier this week.
They included an alleged case of fraud reportedly opened in Empangeni in July 2007, and another opened in March 2012 in Richards Bay.
It is alleged he was also arrested for driving without a licence in Mthunzini.
All cases were dropped, and the police confirmed there were no criminal cases against him.
‘I don’t have a criminal record, and to me this is water under the bridge,’ he told the Zululand Observer.
The former uThungulu District Municipality Economic Development Senior Manager was elected for the national position in Midrand on Saturday.
Before his appointment he served as Secretary of the ANCYL Musa Dladla region.
In an exclusive interview with the Zululand observer, Nzuza said his main priority is youth development especially in the rural areas.
‘People will always talk, but my priority is to use this opportunity by focusing on positive things, and working to strengthen the organisation,’ he said.
‘It is time we opened opportunities for the youth, and bring resourcing to improve their lives.
‘The party’s resolution is to empower the youth, by making sure they have easy access to agencies like the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA).
‘People in the rural areas also needs to be able to obtain these resource and be able to create a better life for all,’ said Nzuza.
Regional response
ANCYL Musa Dladla chairperson Elvis Sxaka Mthethwa congratulated Nzuza on his appointment – saying he has been an asset to the organization.
‘We are humbled to have produced a key player from our region.
‘He has been hard working, dedicated and loyal even when he wasn’t receiving any income,’ said Mthethwa.
Nzuza will now work full-time at Luthuli House, the ANC head office, in Johannesburg, and will be a member of the National Executive Council.
Slindile Dube will take over as the region’s secretary.
