Warning: Bail money scam in eShowe

Once arrested, bail money is only payable at the Community Service Centre (charge office) and an official written receipt must be issued.

THE eShowe SAPS are investigating reports that relatives of arrested persons are contacted by police officials to transfer money to Money Markets accounts, which are available at supermarkets.

A transaction code is obtained from the depositor and no verification of identity is needed to collect the money.

The money deposited is, however, not paid towards the intended bail.

The public is warned that under no circumstances should bail money be paid into any police officials’ private bank accounts or Money Markets.

Once arrested, bail money is only payable at the Community Service Centre (charge office) and an official written receipt must be issued.

A receipt form (J 398) will be issued before the person goes to court.

After his/her court appearance, should bail be granted by the court and the person is remanded back to police detention, a receipt is issued on a (J 399).

Any incidents where this procedure is not being followed must be reported to the Station Commander at the eShowe Police Station on 035 4734215 or Crime Stop 08 600 10111.
