THE uMhlathuze Municipality requests motorists to regularly check the expiry date on their vehicle licence disks.
This after some motorists raised concerns about not receiving licence reminder notification letters via the post.
According to the city’s spokesperson Mdu Ncalane, the municipality does not issue reminders, which is the responsibility of the Provincial Department of Transport.
‘It is possible that delays are experienced at the Post Office.
‘It is the responsibility of drivers to check the expiry dates of their car and driver’s licences and not only rely on reminder notices,’ he said.
If motorists did not receive notices in the post, they can complete an Application for Licencing of Motor Vehicle form at the uMhlathuze municipal offices in Richards Bay or Empangeni. They must produce their identity documents when doing so.
There is a 21-day grace period if one has not renewed the expired vehicle licence. Penalties will be charged after this period.
