RBCT welcomed more than 1000 Grade 9 to Grade 12 pupils, enthusiastic to learn more about the various work opportunities in the coal industry.
The group watched the company’s induction and corporate DVD to learn more about the terminal’s background and daily operations before heading off for a site tour to witness the massive flow of activities.
RBCT Employee Training and Development Superintendent Michael Mhlongo presented life skills tips to the pupils.
Exhibitors from various higher education institutions attended, including Durban University of Technology (DUT), University of Zululand (Unizul), University of South Africa (Unisa), Unfolozi TVET (Technical Vocational Education and Training), MEGAtraining and Boston College.
‘Students were advised on the need to make vital decisions like subject choices which will pave the way towards rewarding careers,’ said RBCT Corporate Affairs Manager Gcina Nhleko.
‘We commend the good relationship we have with the Department of Education as they allowed the pupils to attend.
‘The culture of teaching and learning goes beyond the classroom if impact is to be made and the key focus area for RBCT’s community engagement initiatives is education. This is why enriching projects like our open days hold great value.’
