IF you are passionate about the performing arts, whether it be dancing, singing, modelling, playing an instrument or acting, here is your chance to test your talents.
Auditions for local talent that could make it into the KZN team that will tour to the SA Championships of Performing arts later this year, are about to get underway.
The SA Champs is a platform for youngsters (and adults under 30) to achieve provincial and national colours in all aspects of performing arts.
‘The championships have been going for about 19 years,’ said Kerry Wafer, a mother who is very passionate about the competition.
‘My daughter took part last year and we were blown away,’ said Wafer.
‘It is very sad that we have such phenomenal talent in our area, and the kids are not being exposed to it.’
Wafer has since decided to make it her mission to once again get children involved in the competition.
‘My daughter will be entering again this year, so I have offered to assist with getting a Zululand group together.’
According to Wafer about 3 000 children took part in the finals held in Rustenburg earlier this year, and the closing date for local auditions is 5 September.
After the local auditions, a KZN team is chosen and this team will tour to the finals, again in Rustenburg, in April 2016.
‘From there, some contestants will be selected for the SA team that will tour to Los Angeles in July 2016, and will also obtain their SA colours.’
