Top soccer teams to battle it out during uThungulu Mayoral Cup in Richards Bay next Saturday

A FEAST of football awaits local soccer enthusiasts when four top national teams will square off in the inaugural uThungulu Mayoral Cup tournament at the uMhlathuze Sports Complex in Richards Bay next Saturday (5 September).

uThungulu District Municipality Mayor, Cllr Thembeka Mchunu, and Municipal Manager Mandla Nkosi, officially launched the tournament at the Protea Waterfront Hotel in Richards Bay today (Wednesday).

The tournament will feature Premier Soccer League team Mamelodi Sundowns, Thanda Royal Zulu FC, Amazulu FC and Milford FC.

‘We are so proud to host these games and to have top teams playing in our region. We expect a fully packed stadium,’ said Mchunu.

As part of local football development, Sundowns players will also hold soccer clinics in Ngwelezane on the Friday.

‘Soccer has the ability to unite people from different generations and races. It has the ability to develop people and offer opportunities to youngsters. This tournament will serve as a platform for youth development,’ said Nkosi.

Action will start with a clash between Mamelodi Sundowns and home boys Thanda Royal Zulu FC at 9am.

The second game between AmaZulu FC and Melford FC will begin at 11:30am.
