A MOTORIST who offered his neighbour’s relative a lift into town on Saturday was dealt a low blow when his passenger robbed him of his vehicle.
Nathi Mavundla had parked outside a shopping centre in Richards Bay at 6.45pm and left his keys in the vehicle with the passenger while he went into the shop to purchase a few items.
When he returned, his vehicle was gone.
An ex-policeman, Mavundla said he could not believe what had happened and immediately reported the matter to the police.
Word spread fast and information was received that the suspect was seen driving his vehicle in the Ntambanana area.
‘Residents said the suspect was spinning the car and driving recklessly and had capsized the vehicle.
‘The SAPS Empangeni K9 unit were extremely helpful and the vehicle was later recovered,’ said Mavundla.
‘The number plates and disk were removed and cash and business equipment was stolen from the vehicle. The damages are estimated at about R17 000.’
The suspect has not yet been arrested.
