UPDATE: Community demands ‘no bail’ for murder accused

Port Dunford man accused of killing his girlfriend will reappear in court on 26 August

ANGRY community members protested outside the eSikhawini District Court on Tuesday, demanding murder suspect Sifiso Thulani Gumede (49) from Port Dunford be denied bail.

‘Enough is enough with people who abuse women. We don’t want him in our community, because we are scared for our families’ safety,’ they said.

Gumede was arrested last Friday after burnt female remains were found underneath a tractor tyre in a forest near his home.

Police determined the body had been buried in a shallow grave before being moved into the field in a wheelbarrow.

Gumede’s girlfriend Ntombizodwa Sithole (40) disappeared on 12 July, and a missing persons case was opened by the accused at the eSikhawini police station.

The case was postponed to 26 August for a formal bail application.
