Man stabbed with scissors near rugby club

Empangeni rugby supporter survives scissors attack.

A 23-YEAR-old man escaped serious injury on Friday night after being stabbed in the leg by unknown suspects using a pair of scissors, while on his way to watch a rugby match in Empangeni.

The victim was walking with his brother at around 9pm, past the Empangeni Moth Hall towards the Empangeni Rugby Football Club, when they were approached by three armed men.

The suspects demanded their wallets, cellphones and watches.

After refusing to hand over the items, one suspect stabbed the victim in the leg with a broken pair of scissors, then grabbed the items and ran off.

The injured man, with the scissor blade still lodged in his thigh, managed to get to Mick Kelly Park where a rugby match was in progress.

He received medical attention from the fieldside medics before a supporter took him to the Life Empangeni Garden Clinic for further treatment.
