Arboretum excel at science expo

Arboretum Primary came out on top at the Eskom Expo for Young Scientists

ARBORETUM Primary was recently applauded for their active involvement in the Eskom Expo for Young Scientists event held in Richards Bay earlier this month.

Seventy-five pupils participated in the North Coast regional fair, with the group singled out as being the best participating school.

In addition to this achievement, these young science enthusiasts were crowned champions for posting the best primary school results of the day, while seven pupils were named as category winners.

After witnessing their progress over the past three years, science teacher Verity Espach believes their involvement in the initiative can open numerous doors of opportunities for the pupils

‘It is not only a competition, but an educational and motivating experience for the learners.

Espach encouraged surrounding schools to participate in the expo to broaden their pupils’ scientific horizons.

‘Teachers and parents can be mentors to the students, and together we can assist these children in advancing their knowledge and skills in the discipline,’ she added.

The judging panel is currently reviewing all the category winning projects, and will then select finalists who will go on to compete in the national round of the competition later this year.
