IN less than four hours, unknown suspects managed to strip a house in Grantham Park of nearly all the copper piping and taps around the outside of the home.
Just as they were starting to strip the brass window fittings also, the resident arrived home on Thursday.
Val van der Walt, the ZO’s motoring journalist, is currently in the process of moving into the home.
‘I arrived back at about noon and noticed a plastic bag on the grass,’ he said.
‘Then I saw a guy running to the back of the property where he jumped over the fence.’
Van der Walt said he had been at the house at about 7am, and then left for work just before 8am.
The would-be copper thieves managed to strip most of the copper pipes before being interrupted, and bent the pipes to fit into a plastic bag.
