PLANS are in the pipeline to expand the uThungulu District Municipality offices at uThungulu House in Richards Bay.
This was a key discussion point at the uThungulu District Municipality Executive Committee (Exco) meeting on Tuesday, where the extensions, new council chambers and offices to accommodate the expanding Community Services Department were tabled.
Exco resolved to purchase a portion of uMhlathuze Municipality’s property, the parking area next to uThungulu House at the corner of Krugerrand Road and Barbados Ba,y at a cost of almost R2-million.
Municipal Manager Mandla Nkosi said the new building will cost in the region of R74-million and lobbying for funds from provincial and national government will get underway.
He said the building will take on an environmentally friendly and ‘green approach’ with emphasis on promoting energy conservation.
The growth of the municipality over the past two years prompted the need for extension of the current offices.
