THE uThungulu District flew the flag high for the region when its Municipal Manager Mandla Nkosi won the silver accolade at the annual KZN Premier’s Service Excellence Awards in Durban on Thursday.
The provincial government awards, which recognise best performing employees and departments in the province, saw Nkosi scoop the runner-up award in the ‘Best Municipal Manager of the Year’ category.
He was pipped by Municipal Manager of Msunduzi Municipality, Mxolisi Nkosi.
The uThungulu MM was lauded for good leadership and governance with the district attaining two consecutive clean audits under his leadership.
The municipality further won ‘Best Performing District’ for two consecutive years from the KZN Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs as well as winning the ‘Best District Municipality’ at the KZN Premier’s Service Excellence Awards last year.
‘This award is recognition of the hard work that has been done not only by myself, but also the entire district staff,’ Nkosi told the Zululand Observer.
‘No MM can function without a dedicated staff and management complement and so I congratulate them. I also owe this achievement to the great Council oversight at uThungulu. But we can still do better than this,’ said Nkosi.
