Stiff sentence for statutory rape

Man accused for statutory rape sentenced in KwaDukuza court

THE KwaDukuza Regional Court convicted and sentenced Siphiwe Mkhambiseni Khumalo (28) to 18 years imprisonment for the statutory rape of a 14-year-old girl.

The court heard on Monday that the accused was in a relationship with the girl and when her parents found out about the relationship, told Khumalo to stop seeing their daughter. He continued to date her, however.

On 16 September last year the victim’s parents discovered that the accused had slept with their daughter and they opened a case at the KwaDukuza Police Station.

Khumalo was arrested and charged with statutory rape.
