Black Rhino poached at private reserve
A black rhino was poached on a private game reserve near Jozini on Monday
THE scourge of rhino poaching continues as a private game reserve near Jozini lost one of its Black Rhino on Monday.
Four suspects made their way onto the Esikhotheni Private Game Reserve in the early hours of Monday morning.
According to the reserve owner, the suspects targeted all waterholes until they found a rhino.
An adult female Black Rhino was killed and de-horned. It’s 10-month-old calf was unharmed and transferred to a sanctuary for its own protection.
Esikhotheni is split by the N2, with the eastern section falling within the Pongola Private Game Reserve and the western section separately fenced.
The poaching occurred in the far western point of the reserve’s western section. Preventative measures are being taken to protect the remainder of the reserve’s rhinos.
