Diamond dealing suspect released

The suspected arrested in connection with the alleged diamond sale in St Lucia was released, owing to delays in the verification process.

A ZIMBABWEAN national arrested in connection with an alleged illegal diamond sale in St Lucia has been released because of a delay in verifying the stones’ authenticity.

After being arrested shortly after midnight on Sunday, the 39-year-old suspect was released on Tuesday afternoon in keeping with the detention rule which states suspects cannot be detained for longer than 48 hours without appearing in the magistrate’s court.

The suspect’s particulars have been recorded at Mtubatuba SAPS and his passport detained to prevent him from leaving the country.
