Steady building growth for city

Growth in demand for new private houses and buildings in the City of uMhlathuze

THE City of uMhlathuze continues to show steady, if unspectacular, growth in demand for new private houses and buildings.

Quarterly building stats from the uMhlathuze City Development portfolio show 91 building plans with a total value of R77 817 000 were approved in the January to March 2015 period.

The bulk of the plans was made up of 21 dwellings and 65 extensions or alterations to dwellings

In the same period, 10 buildings worth R4 393 000 were completed.

• By random comparison, statistics for the third quarter of 2008 showed that plans were approved for 157 new dwellings worth R30-million.

Approval was also given for 131 extensions or alterations to dwellings worth R22.4-million approved.

In addition, plans were passed for flats, general industrial and commercial buildings worth R24.37-million.

During the same quarter, 40 dwellings/extensions/alterations and 44 flats were completed.

More comparisons

• During the 2009 April to June quarter, 100 building plans totalling R85-million were approved and 19 buildings worth R9.94-million were completed.

• The city sanctioned 251 building plans worth a total of R1.86-billion in the six-month period from 1 October 2011 to 31 March 2012.

The plans included 34 new dwellings and 206 extensions or alterations to existing dwellings.

During the same time frame, 61 buildings totalling R10.32-million were completed.

This figure included 51 new dwellings.
