UPDATE: St Lucia robbery suspects nabbed

Two men suspected to be involved in the Maputaland Guest House robbery in St Lucia have been arrested.

TWO men suspected to be involved in last month’s Maputaland Guest House robbery in St Lucia, were arrested in KwaMsane last week following a tip-off from community members.

The popular accommodation establishment fell victim to armed robbers on the morning of Tuesday, 5 May when three men forced their way onto the premises shortly after 8.30am.

The suspects demanded the owner open the safes, and firearms and money were stolen.

The guesthouse owner, two staff members and two guests were held at gunpoint and tied up while the three suspects ransacked the office and bedroom, and stole the contents of the safe before fleeing in the owner’s vehicle, which was recovered shortly after the incident.

One of the suspects was arrested the following week at Bhobhoza, on the outskirts of Mtubatuba. Some of the stolen jewellery, the two stolen firearms and cameras were recovered, but not the stolen money.
