AN eSikhaleni man who repeatedly raped his former girlfriend earlier this year was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment at the eSikhawini Regional Court on Friday.
Phumlani Mthiyane (20) of Maholoholo Reserve, eSikhaleni was found guilty of raping a 24 year-old woman of Mhlawula in February.
The woman was in her home at around 8pm when Mthiyane made his way in and threatened her with a firearm demanding that she remove her clothes.
The traumatised woman tried to protect herself and fought back. However, she was overpowered and raped repeatedly by Mthiyane who left the following morning.
The victim opened a case of rape at the eSikhawini SAPS but the case was subsequently taken over by the Empangeni Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit, who arrested Mthiyane in March.
