Rhinos vanquished in Durban Crusade

Rhinos 1 and 2 went down in Durban on Saturday to Northwood Crusaders.

RHINOS 1 and 2 went down to Northwood Crusaders on Saturday in Fidelity Security Moor Cup matches played in Durban North.

Despite Rhinos 1’s victory over Varsity College at home last weekend, the boys were unable to make it two out of two.

Rhinos 1 fielded a weaker side due to player injuries and unavailability, but the youngsters selected stepped up to the plate and put on an admirable performance.

The home side dominated up front with their larger pack which allowed their backline plenty of space to move, which resulted in a 28-9 lead at half time.

The Rhinos’ nine points came courtesy of captain Jors Dannhauser’s boot.

Rhinos dotted down twice in the second half thanks to winger Thokozani Mdluli and centre Victor Campher, both tries converted by Dannhauser.

But unfortunately Crusaders scored a further three tries to win the game at 47-23.

Rhinos 1 men of the match were Michael Neysschens (forwards) and Jors Dannhauser (backline).

Bonus point

The Rhinos 2 side played with huge guts and determination but unfortunately went down 45-22 in a game that saw the local lads pick up a four try bonus point.

Zack Dlomo (2), Junior Dlomo and Khulani Mhlongo all crossed the chalk for the Rhinos outfit.

Men of the match were Ayanda Msweli (forwards) and Junior Dlomo (backline).

‘Rhinos play has vastly improved under Head Coach Riaan Pienaar and David de Villiers.

‘With three games to go Rhinos 1 are no longer bottom of the log after their good away win over Pietermaritzburg Collegians and their home win over Varsity College,’ said Empangeni Rugby Football Club chairman Simon Harvey.

Rhinos will host third placed Amanzimtoti on Saturday.

Kick-off is 1:30pm and 3pm.

The boys will then host Pmb Collegians on Saturday 18 July.

The club appeals to all supporters and the public to come and support the Rhinos in their last two home matches of the season at Mick Kelly.
