A LOCAL outdoors enthusiast and bird watcher captured a graceful wader, strolling through the shallow waters of Lake Nhlabane near RBM and caught the moment on camera.

Sarie Killian was enchanted to catch the Black-winged Stilt navigating the waters on his extra-long legs, seemingly a bit peckish.

These birds prefer aquatic insects and crustaceans on the menu, which they can fish out by sticking their heads under water.

They are not very fond of swimming.

Stilts are social birds and the male and female team both warm the eggs and keep an eye on their brood.

They communicate with a high-pitched barking, not unlike their human counterparts on parent duty.
