UPDATE: Guest house robbery suspects nabbed

Two men suspected to be involved in a St Lucia guest house robbery have been arrested.

TWO men suspected to be involved in last month’s Maputaland Guest House robbery in St Lucia, were arrested in KwaMsane on Saturday following a tip-off from community members.

The popular accommodation establishment fell victim to armed robbers on the morning of Tuesday, 5 May when three men forced their way onto the premises shortly after 8.30am.

The suspects demanded the owner open the safes, and firearms and money were stolen.

A guesthouse owner, two staff members and two guests were held at gunpoint and tied up while the three suspects ransacked the office and bedroom, and stole the contents of the safe before fleeing in the victims’ vehicle, which was recovered shortly after the incident.

One of the suspects was arrested the following week at Bhobhoza, on the outskirts of Mtubatuba. Some of the stolen jewellery, the two stolen firearms and cameras were recovered but not the stolen money.

The two suspects are due to appear at the Mtubatuba Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
