Big boost for Bay rugby

Richards Bay take on the Jaguars on Saturday.

IT was a superb day at the office this weekend for the Richards Bay Rugby Club, when all three teams in action claimed hard fought victories over their challengers.

The clean sweep of victories started on Friday evening when the third team beat Ushaka Warriors 26-24.

The first and second teams followed this with successful victories over Harlequins on Saturday.

The Durban-based team from the Bluff went down 47-10 to the second team and 31-29 to the first team in a Fidelity Security First Division match-up.

The second team called Harlequins’ ‘bluff’, smashing them in a one-sided contest.

Armand Fourie (3), Gift Vilane (2), Blessing Nhlozi and Erenst Pretorius all dotted down for the home side, with captain Steven Renolds kicking six conversions.

Harlequins only opened their scoring late in the second half, which did not prove too costly for the home side.

The Bay second side remain unbeaten and top of the Fidelity Security First Division second team log.

Close encounter

In a very close encounter between two talented first teams, it was the Bay who walked away winners after beating their visitors 31-29.

This win was vital for the local lads and hopefully the confidence and momentum can be carried into this weekend’s fixture against unbeaten log leaders Jaguars.

The visitors took a 22-14 lead going into the half time break, with tries coming from Frank Hughes and Jimmy Enslin, which Enslin converted.

The Bay bounced back in the second half and managed to steal the win, thanks to tries from Juandre Lotriet and Thulani Nqayi, which JP Rossouw converted.

Rossouw also kicked a penalty to end the score at 31.

The Bay will host Jaguars on Saturday with the second teams kicking-off at 1.30pm followed by the first team at 3pm.
